Glynn Washington
1987
Glynn Washington is a celebrated storyteller, public radio host, and producer. A proud graduate of East Kentwood High School's Class of 1987, Glynn's journey has taken him from Kentwood to the cutting edge of narrative storytelling.
As the creator and host of the award-winning Snap Judgment, along with Spooked, Heaven’s Gate, and Mind Your Own, Glynn blends powerful tales with cinematic soundscapes, inspiring empathy and sparking curiosity in audiences worldwide. His work, which focuses on giving a platform to unheard voices and untold stories, has been downloaded over half a billion times. Glynn's path to success was anything but linear. After East Kentwood, he attended Grand Valley State University, furthered his studies in Japan, briefly worked as a diplomat in Malaysia, and ultimately graduated from the University of Michigan Law School. He even led several non-profit organizations before finding his true calling as a storyteller after winning NPR / PRX’s Public Radio Talent Quest in 2007. Glynn credits East Kentwood with fostering his love of narrative. He fondly remembers Mr. Scalabrino's radio class, where he first experienced the power of speaking through a microphone – an experience he may not have excelled at, but one that proved formative nonetheless. He also cherishes the memory of the encouragement he received from Mrs. Cox, who was moved to tears by a story he wrote. These experiences, along with the diverse community at East Kentwood, which Glynn credits with teaching him humility and providing him with second chances, laid the foundation for his future success. Today, Glynn continues to push the boundaries of storytelling through Snap Judgment and other projects across a variety of mediums, including live shows, animation, books, and television. |
