Julie (Hamerlink) Driver
2020
Julie and her husband Blake first became foster parents in Spring 2013 when a brave teenager asked them to adopt her. Their family of five quickly became six when she moved into their home, and in three short years became an EK graduate. The new family of six became seven when they took foster placement of a three-day-old baby boy. It was during this time that Julie began to realize the physical needs of foster families—especially with clothing. These firsthand experiences inspired Julie to establish Closet of Hope, a place where foster parents can receive free clothing for the children in their homes.
The "closet" quickly expanded, both in physical space and clothing offerings for foster children and parents, and today is the first stop for all foster family needs including formula, diapers, toys, cribs, stuffed animals, and even a freezer meal or two. Additionally, the Closet has become a place of respite and comfort to foster families as new friendships are made over the joys and struggles of life. Closet of Hope currently serves more than 75 families per month, bringing hope and smiles to over 250 kids. |
