Peg and her husband are from Iowa and, despite living in Spartan and Wolverine country, they remain die hard Hawkeyes
.  
Peg graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a degree in music and elementary education with special education certification.  She taught special education for four years in Iowa before moving to Grand Rapids in 1980 and Kentwood in 1985. 

Their two daughters went to KPS K-12.  Heather graduated in 2001 and has a MA in Chemistry and is Education Supervisor at Science City in Kansas City, Michelle graduated in 2003 and has a MA in Early Childhood Education and she has a 2 ½ year-old little girl.

Peg’s community service is extensive including serving in the following roles: Region 4 Director and former KPS Coordinator for Odyssey of the Mind, Kentwood Baseball League Sponsor Coordinator and all around volunteer, Sudanese teen sponsor, and continual School volunteer.

​During her career, she has has earned several awards that demonstrate her passion and enthusiasm for her subjects and her students, including: 

• Distinguished Service Award from M.A.S.B.
• Exemplary National Issues Programming from the National Council for the 
• Social Studies
• Liberty Bell Award from the Grand Rapids Bar Association 
• Liberty Bell Award from the State of Michigan Bar Association
• Michigan Senior Citizen of the Year in Leadership from the State of Michigan
• Civil Libertarian of the Year from the ACLU
• Congressional Medal of Merit from Representative Vern Ehlers
• She was also the student choice for teacher of the year seven times and 
•  A Michigan Teacher-of-the-Year runner-up.

Not one to be idle, she also advocates for the Senior Issues board, National Issues group at the Ford Museum, ACLU of West Michigan board, World Affairs Council, and engages in political volunteer work.
