Rachael Ruiz

Rachael Ruiz is a host and reporter on the lifestyle and entertainment show, eightWest, which airs weekdays on WOOD TV in West Michigan. Before that, Rachael worked as an anchor and reporter at the station. The show eightWest received a national Gracie Award for exceptional programming created by women, for women, and about women.
As part of eightWest, Rachael focuses on local events and happenings involving health, food, fashion, fitness, the arts, and much more. Some of her work adventures have included hot air ballooning, race car driving, flying a plane AND helicopter (on different days), and skating with the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls. Her adventures have also taken her across the country. From Fashion Week in New York City to the Las Vegas stage. Rachael also enjoys cooking alongside some of the area’s best chefs for the show. Rachael graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Journalism. Before coming to WOOD TV, she worked at WILX and WLNS in Lansing. And at WJRT in the Flint/Saginaw TV market. Rachael is currently a board member at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum. She’s also served on the boards of the YWCA West Central Michigan and D.A. Blodgett for Children. And, chaired a committee to raise public funds for Downtown Market Grand Rapids. Rachael has hosted, emceed, and served as a speaker at hundreds of local events. Some of her recent emcee duties included the Santa Parade in Grand Rapids and the 2015 Mrs. Michigan pageant. She also loves visiting local classrooms to read to students, and inspire them to reach for their dreams. Rachael lives in the Grand Rapids area with her husband and two young daughters. When she’s not working… their family is always on the go! Or at the beach. |
